PCA and PCM: who does what?

Your PCA

Provides the personal care assistance authorized for you. In this program, you are the consumer-employer who hires and directs the PCA.

Your PCM agency

Care Remedy guides intake, evaluation and program management. Skills training helps you understand employer responsibilities and the required paperwork.

Your fiscal intermediary

Handles payroll and related employer administration. Ask our team how to reach the appropriate fiscal intermediary for your services.

Who may qualify?

Our team reviews coverage and coordinates the required evaluation and documentation. MassHealth or the responsible health plan makes the authorization decision. Tell us if you have SCO, One Care, PACE or another coordinated plan so we can review the referral pathway.

What can personal care include?

Depending on the evaluation and authorization, assistance may include bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, movement and transfers, medication assistance or passive range-of-motion exercises. Some household tasks may also be covered when program requirements are met.

The PCA program focuses on physical assistance. Supervision or reminders alone do not establish eligibility. Discuss the exact help you need with our team.
